What we collect

When you submit a sighting we store: your email address and display name (from Google or Discord sign-in), the sighting description, dates, the exact location you pin, any photo you upload (including a private copy of the original file, which may contain camera metadata such as GPS and timestamps), and technical data like IP-based rate-limiting counters.

What we show publicly

Only: an approximate location (randomized within roughly 300 meters), the observation date, your description, a metadata-stripped copy of your photo, and a verification badge. We never publish your name, email, exact coordinates, or original photo files.

Original photos

Private originals are retained for moderation and verification for up to 90 days, then eligible for deletion. You can delete them yourself at any time (below).

Deleting your data

Visit My reports to delete any individual sighting or all of your data — sightings, public images, thumbnails, and private originals — permanently and immediately. We don't maintain a separate account database; removing your submissions removes everything we hold about you.

Sharing

Approved sightings (with approximate locations only) appear in our public map, RSS feed, and GeoJSON feed, which anyone may reuse. If a sighting raises a public-safety or wildlife-management concern, we may share details, including exact location, with Alabama wildlife authorities.
